Dura Composites Are Winners Of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation

In 2020, Dura Composites was honoured with its second Queen’s Award for Enterprise, presented by The Lord-Lieutenant of Essex Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst at the company’s Operations Centre in Clacton-on-Sea.

Having previously won a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2017, this time we have been recognised for outstanding Innovation – thanks largely to the success of the rapid-deployment composite train station platform and its ability to improve overall safety for passengers.

With many of the UK’s train station platforms requiring repairs and replacement after decades of rising commuter levels and heavy use, the award-winning Dura Platform has been designed to provide easier access for passengers as well as saving labour costs and reducing installation times for rail contractors who can manoeuvre Dura’s modular platform sections easily without the need for expensive lifting equipment and additional labour that traditional concrete platforms require.

Composite materials are playing an increasingly prominent role in the Rail, Highways and Transport industries thanks to their lightweight nature, durability and fire performance qualities.

Composites offer significant improvements over traditional materials and are providing innovative and sustainable solutions for a range of key infrastructure projects.

Take a look at the highlights of the Queen’s Award presentation – December 2020. Dura Platform, the Queen’s Award-Winning Composite Station Platform, is a breakthrough composite product made from Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP) which complies with Network Rail specifications and is suitable for both new build and refurbishment projects as a low maintenance and cost-saving alternative to traditional materials such as concrete.
