    Stairs & Treads

High quality, more consistent, stronger and longer lasting products.

We offer a wide range of structural and non-structural stair treads, stair covers and floor sheets to help boost the safety and longevity of your staircase with minimum disruption for workers or members of the public versus more traditional solutions. Structural solutions include our GRP d² Dura Slab stair treads which have a built in rise and a fall to assist with drainage and our open mesh grating stair treads with contrasting nosings.

Whether you need a structural GRP stair tread in easy sections that can be easily lifted into place to replace degraded timber treads, or you need gritted plate covers, strips or overlays to go over your existing stairs and landings, we can help.

Where your requirement is structural, our pre-fabricated lightweight Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads can be easily fixed in position thanks to their pultruded single unit construction. Built-in rise and goings mean rapid installation and each stair tread also features a fall to assist with water drainage and reduce pooling on stair surfaces. We also supply Dura Slab landing panels so you can achieve a full solution that’s both safe and aesthetically pleasing.

If your underlying structure is ok but your walking surface has weathered and become slippery, we have a range of other cost-effective non-structural options. Designed to be installed over new or existing structural members of steel, timber, concrete or aluminium based floors, our anti-slip sheets, stair covers and grip strips provide a quick and economical anti-slip flooring solution. Unlike the competition, our sheets are pultruded rather than moulded to ensure a better quality, more consistent, stronger and longer lasting product than anything else on the market.

    Projects

    FAQ

The correct choice of material for stair treads and landings depends on various factors such as the location of the stairs, the level of foot traffic, your overall project budget, safety requirements and of course, aesthetics. As experts in composites, we’ve delivered hundreds of successful projects, including pedestrian footbridges, staircases to mezzanines and a wide variety of stepped access structures. That’s why we believe that fibreglass is the best material to choose, particularly where your staircase is for outdoor use, where exposure to the elements can lead to degradation in other materials.

Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads are manufactured by combining resins with pure glassfibre reinforcement and are ideal for both new build footbridges and for essential refurbishment works. They’re formed and cured in a continuous process creating a product of extraordinary strength and resilience which is resistant against a wide range of chemicals and temperature spectrums. The single-unit construction of the treads and landings facilitates easy positioning, with a built-in riser for quick installation. Additionally, Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads feature an incline to aid drainage and minimise water accumulation on the stair surfaces.

Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads are lightweight, high strength, anti-slip, non-corrosive and non-conductive. The single piece format speeds up install times, reducing costs and limiting disruption to end users of the stairs. Where previous composite treads on the market have been limited in span capabilities, our treads span up to 2m clear open span, achieving the required 5kN/m2 at L/300 deflection, meaning additional supports can be avoided in most scenarios. Importantly no heavy lifting equipment is necessary during installation, as all panels can be easily handled manually, even in full stock lengths.

If your staircase requires drainage, it’s definitely worth considering our open mesh grating treads made from our d² Dura Grating. We recommend the use of our 45mm mini mesh d² Dura Grating which is designed to be compliant with BS 6399 to meet 2.5Kn loadings (at 0.5% / L200) deflection. This is around 30% stronger than the standard 38mm grating used by other grating tread suppliers. The smaller hole size provides a greater sense of security and reduces the likelihood of vertigo for staircase users.
