We welcome the opportunity to discuss your environmental sustainability objectives early in the procurement process and are happy to detail the significant embedded carbon savings that can be made by choosing our d² station platform and related products over other materials on the market.
Data released by the ORR shows passengers made 1.83 billion journeys on the Britain’s rail network last year, yet many of the platforms supporting those journeys were built decades ago and continue to be maintained well beyond their intended design life.
Across the network, ageing platforms consume maintenance budgets through an ongoing cycle of inspections, temporary works and patch repairs. While these interventions may keep stations operational, they rarely improve long-term asset condition and can increase cost, disruption and operational risk over time.
At the same time, every station project faces growing pressure to minimise possessions, reduce passenger disruption, lower embodied carbon and deliver greater value from every investment. The railway doesn’t simply need another repair. It needs a better approach to platform renewal.
The d² Dura Platform System replaces traditional heavy civil engineering with a lightweight, modular platform solution that is faster to install, lower in embodied carbon and designed for over 60 years of service.
In use on the UK rail network and proven across over 70 UK and global station projects, it enables asset owners to renew infrastructure rather than continually repairing it.
Dura Platform can cut platform installation time by up to 65% – benefitting passengers who are able to re-access the station sooner and saving labour costs for rail contractors.
Efficient in locations where traditional build systems are not suitable due to limited access, restricted possession times and/or passenger disruption concerns.
Versatile platform systems that allow for easy height and pitch adjustment, incorporating a 1 in 40 fall to aid water runoff.
Every station presents different engineering challenges. That’s why d² offers two complementary platform systems built around the same proven Dura Platform surface.
