Quantity Surveyor

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team, supporting the successful commercial delivery of construction and infrastructure projects across the UK. You will be responsible for cost estimating, tender preparation, contract administration, cost control, cash flow forecasting, commercial reporting, and stakeholder management, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. The role includes occasional UK-wide travel for client meetings.

The successful candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in a senior Quantity Surveying or commercial role, with strong knowledge of NEC, JCT and/or FIDIC contracts and proven experience in cost reporting, BOQs, and commercial management within the UK construction sector. A relevant degree is essential, with RICS or CIOB accreditation (or working towards it) preferred. You will have excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, a strong commercial focus, and a professional, client-centred approach aligned with our PRIDE values.


Key Duties

As a Quantity Surveyor, your core responsibility is to carefully estimate costs, calculate material needs and map out project timelines. You will liaise closely with all teams to keep the project financially on track, you will:

  • Consult with clients to understand project requirements, budgets, and constraints
  • Conduct feasibility studies to assess the viability of proposed projects
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and timelines
  • Develop tender documentation, including bills of quantities and scope of work
  • Implement risk management strategies, cost control, and value engineering
  • Negotiate contracts, timelines, and commercial terms with contractors and suppliers
  • Manage and assess subcontractor performance and valuations for interim and final payments
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and quality benchmarks
  • Forecast and monitor project cash flow to support financial planning and control
  • Provide continuous assessment of project value and cost-effectiveness for clients
  • Produce detailed progress and cost reports, identifying trends and variances
  • Advise on claims, disputes, and contractual obligations; manage resolution and settlement
  • Finalise project accounts, including subcontractor payments, estimating and final accounts
  • Willing to travel to site locations (UK wide) for client progress meetings

Person Specification

Skills & Experience

  • 5 years’ experience in a senior commercial role, ideally in large capital programs.
  • Familiarity with the UK’s complex infrastructure sector (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving abilities.
  • NEC/JCT / FIDIC etc. contract experience.
  • A commercial focus, helping shape investment decisions that provide value for money.
  • Effective workload management and the ability to deliver clear, accessible reports to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Superb client facing skills.

Competencies

  • Right to Work: You must have permanent eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Education & Accreditation: A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management, preferably accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), or actively working towards RICS, CIOB accreditation.
  • Industry Experience: Demonstrable experience in the UK construction industry with a proven track record in cost control, cost reporting, and preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong numerical and data analysis abilities, with the capability to interpret complex data sets, identify trends, and deliver accurate financial forecasts.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to documentation, reporting, and compliance to ensure quality and accuracy across all deliverables.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear, professional interaction with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Problem Solving: Proactive mindset with strong organisational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and develop practical solutions in a fast-paced environment.

08:30 – 17:00 (37.5 hrs per week)

Operations Centre, Clacton-on-Sea

Basic Salary

£50,000 – £52,000 per annum (depending on experience)

NPGSBS

Potential to earn 20% of Basic salary, following one year’s service as part of the companywide Net Profit Gain Share Bonus System (NPGSBS)

Total Package

£60,000 – £62,400 per annum (depending on experience and assuming opt out of car allowance with access of an electric/hybrid vehicle)

Holidays

33 days per year (inc. bank holidays)
Option to purchase 5 additional days per year

Car Allowance

You will have the option to either receive a company car or opt for an allowance.

Opting In:

If you choose to opt into the company car scheme, your car budget will vary based on the type of vehicle selected. For a Non-Electric/Hybrid vehicle (based on 6/23 10k miles), your budget will be £225 per month, with the option to personally contribute an additional £70.

For an Electric/Hybrid vehicle, the budget increases to £313 per month, with an option to add £120.

While you will have input on the car choice, the final decision will be made by a Director.

This benefit is taxable, with the amount determined by the list price, CO2 emissions, and your tax bracket. If you opt for the company car, the company will cover maintenance, road tax, and insurance, though fuel costs will not be included.

Opting Out:

Alternatively, you can opt out of the company car scheme and receive an additional monthly allowance before income tax. For a Non-Electric/Hybrid vehicle, the allowance would be £449 per month, and for an Electric/Hybrid vehicle, it would be £561 per month.
