Lightweight but durable GRP for heritage structures.
Affectionately referred to as ‘The Pagoda’ due to its Japanese architectural influences, this Victorian masterpiece is prominently situated at the terminus of the Grade 1 listed Clevedon Pier. The local council intended to transform this building into a new community room, but the previous timber flooring had degraded and required replacement with a safe and long-lasting alternative.
One of the main requirements was for the floor to be lightweight and easily removable for safe access below. We were selected to provide a full turnkey solution, from design to supply and installation, due to our extensive experience in the marine industry. Our Structural Design team created precise designs, technical information, and rigorous testing data to ensure the client’s confidence in our ability to complete the project.
Our lightweight d2 Dura Grating and Dura Profile products offered the perfect solution, providing exceptional safety, performance, and durability, and were easily fitted to the existing steel frame. Our experienced installation team completed the project efficiently, thanks to the flexibility of our GRP Profile that is lightweight and easy to cut and manoeuvre on-site.
Clevedon, a three-time winner of the Pier of the Year award, takes great pride in its Pier. Therefore, safety was paramount for the community space’s flooring, and our non-corrosive grating was the ideal choice. Our Standard Mesh offers anti-slip features and is more durable than traditional materials such as wood or steel in marine and waterside environments.
Our heavily tested d2 GRP Grating and Profile are backed by a 25-year warranty, but the selection of durable materials is only part of the process. The Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust needs to raise £125,000 each year for maintenance of the historic structures, so why not consider joining their supporters scheme to help ensure the Pier’s future-proofing and enjoyment for generations to come?
