GRP products that are built to last.

Discover more about the longevity of our GRP products and how we build them to last. If you’re new to the world of GRP or fibreglass then you might have lots of questions about how it will perform versus other heavy duty flooring and walkway materials. In this article, we’ve provided answers to some of the most common questions we get asked.

How long will my Dura Grating actually last?

design life should be up to sixty years, meaning decades of hassle-free performance. At Dura we pride ourselves in our rigorous testing regime, where we test everything from performance under fire to anti-slip properties and point-loadings, so you know you are getting one of the safest products on the market. But the proof is in the pudding as they say… which is why we have real world examples to support our testing.

15 years ago we suppled grating to one of the most iconic marinas in the world at Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. We supplied over 7km of grating to the famous man-made island and as you can see from the photos, all these years later the grating has retained its strength, anti-slip performance and good looks. Our high-performance GRP grating is able to withstand even the harshest of marine environments because of our unique designs and manufacturing methods. Although still a relatively modern material, today GRP Dura Grating is used in almost every industry, from Rail to Construction and Marine to Energy – because they are the safest, strongest, fastest and most proven on the market.

    What testing do we do?

Another common question we get asked is about our testing. We have provided some basic facts and figures here, but for a more comprehensive look at what makes our testing unique, check out our testing section.

    • Anti-Slip

Dura Composites’ unique high specification composition has been rigorously tested (in accordance with BS 7976-2:2002+A1:2013) and achieves ultra-low slip potential in both wet and dry conditions. For areas of extremely high footfall we offer a new Tri-Tone grit with even more durable performance.

    • Fire

Our standard d² GRP Dura Grating flooring achieves a classification of B fl s1, meaning very limited contribution to fire, with low smoke emissions. We have also tested a range of products under other fire classifications that may be relevant to your project. Simply request a copy of our Fire Safety Briefing Sheet for more information.

    • Load-Testing

Our comprehensive testing programme and data analysis make it as easy as possible for you to choose the right product for your project. Our online tool allows you to set your own clear span dimension, type of load (Point Load or Uniformly Distributed Load), maximum load requirement and allowable deflection criteria (measured as a proportion of the span ie L/200 or 0.5%). A range of suitable products is then presented to you, along with detailed product information such as drawings, dimensions, load tables and graphs which can be downloaded into a neat professional document for analysis and approval.
