    GRP Pontoon Duct Cover

    Project Overview

Dura Composites’ customer Walcon Marine was responsible for the staged removal of the old pontoons and the supply and installation of new walkways and finger pontoons. With a particularly high specification needed for the project, Walcon worked with Dura to develop a new GRP Duct Cover design which is a first in the marketplace.

Unique GRP duct cover boosts safety.

This marina is situated on the south coast of England within the River Hamble which flows into the northeast side of Southampton Water. It is a modern marina which benefited from a multi-million pound upgrade to its boatyard in 2014. Dura Composites products were selected for this project by Walcon Marine, one of the global leaders in the design & construction of marinas.

The Marina was constructed in the late 1960’s when boats were smaller and narrower, meaning the current pontoons did not meet modern industry standards. Now the marina owner is investing further to create an additional 59 berths, upgrade the pontoons and construct a new bridgehead.

Dura Composites’ customer Walcon Marine was responsible for the staged removal of the old pontoons and the supply and installation of 976 metres of walkways and 148 finger pontoons to provide berths for 297 boats. With a particularly high specification needed for the project, Walcon worked with Dura to develop a new Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Duct Cover design which is a first in the marketplace and which offers a clean, anti-slip, non-corrosive and durable finish.

Dura’s GRP Duct Covers are a real innovation. There’s nothing else like them in the marketplace and they have proved ideal for this high specification project. In terms of safety they have excellent anti-slip properties and tie in perfectly with the other extremely high-quality materials which Walcon has employed on this project, giving a clean and professional finish. We look forward to using them on future projects and to the successful completion of Phase II of the regeneration programme at the Marina
