For this project, Wickstead Developments was commissioned to convert the first and second floors above two existing retail units at 9 & 11 Moor Street into student accommodation for nearby Edge Hill University. Located in the heart of Ormskirk town centre within its primary shopping district, the site also lies within the Ormskirk Town Centre Conservation Area. The newly developed space features 19 en-suite bedrooms, along with communal lounge and kitchen areas.
Collaborating with Dura Composites for a Safe and Stylish Walkway
The approved plans for the student accommodation included a designated accessway from the rear of the building, exclusively for pedestrian use.
To bring this vision to life, Wickstead Developments partnered with Dura Composites to design and supply a lightweight, modular walkway system. The walkway was constructed using d² Dura Grating Mini Mesh in a dark grey colour, supported by a 50mm box frame in d² Dura Profile, raised pedestals, and complemented by an omega handrail in matching dark grey.
The combination of d² Dura Grating and Profile offers a safe and durable walking surface, rigorously tested to over a million footfalls to ensure it meets the highest standards of performance and reliability. Lightweight and quick to install, the system also benefits from being fully recyclable should it ever reach end of use, boosting the sustainability of the project.
