Supporting Community Facilities Along the HS2 Programme

What does meaningful community impact look like on a major infrastructure programme like HS2? For Dura Composites, it means going beyond construction activity to reduce disruption, listen to local needs, and deliver lasting value for the communities affected.

As part of HS2’s Community Investment programme, Dura Composites was proud to support Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) in enhancing facilities at Ward End Wellbeing Centre, a vital community hub serving the local area.

The centre plays a key role in supporting wellbeing, inclusion and social connection. Recognising the importance of accessibility in community spaces, Dura designed, fabricated and supplied a new public access ramp to help ensure the centre is safe, welcoming and accessible for all users.

To minimise disruption within this busy community setting, the ramp was manufactured off-site at Dura’s SmartFAB facility. The prefabricated solution allowed for efficient installation while reducing on-site activity. Constructed using Dura’s low embodied carbon d² components, the GRP ramp provides a lightweight, durable solution that is fully recyclable at the end of its life.

While a relatively simple intervention, the project delivers significant and lasting benefits—improving access to an essential local asset and supporting the long-term needs of the community it serves.

Dura Composites is proud to work alongside BBV to help turn HS2’s community commitments into tangible outcomes, demonstrating how thoughtful design and sustainable manufacturing can make a real difference beyond the construction site.
