    Celebrating a Century

As Holland Residents’ Association (HRA) approaches its 100th anniversary in 2026, the community is coming together to celebrate a century of civic pride and local heritage. To mark this historic milestone, new signage has been created using Dura Composites’ durable Daggerboard material – designed to complement the character of Holland-on-Sea whilst providing a robust, long-lasting solution.

    The Challenge

For the HRA, the centenary is a chance to honour Holland-on-Sea’s unique history – from its Domesday roots as “Hoilanda” through its transformation into the seaside village and vibrant community it is today. But creating signage for such a significant occasion posed some challenges.

The signs needed to reflect local heritage, stand up to the tough coastal climate, and require minimal upkeep so that volunteers and residents could focus on celebrating, not maintaining. Traditional timber, whilst authentic, often struggles against sea air, salt, and high winds.

    Our Solution

To meet these needs, we supplied new signage manufactured from our d² composite Dura Daggerboard. Specifically engineered for outdoor use, d² Dura Daggerboard combines a heritage-sensitive aesthetic with modern performance.

Drawing on our experience at projects like the West Runton Station sign restoration in Norfolk, we were able to ensure the HRA’s new signage delivered on both form and function – capturing the history of the area while offering the strength, sustainability, and longevity required in a coastal setting.

    The Benefits

    • Built to last: d² Dura Daggerboard withstands the harsh effects of saltwater, UV exposure, and fluctuating weather conditions.
    • Low maintenance: No repainting or time-consuming repairs required, helping the HRA focus resources on community activities.
    • Heritage sensitive: The look and feel were carefully considered to respect and reflect Holland-on-Sea’s local identity.
    • Sustainable choice: With a longer life cycle than many traditional materials, d² Dura Daggerboard supports the community’s environmental ambitions.

    Why It Matters

The centenary signs will welcome residents and visitors alike, acting as a lasting tribute to 100 years of community spirit and the ongoing story of Holland Residents’ Association. They also demonstrate how innovative materials can be used to honour tradition without compromising durability or sustainability.

Working with the HRA on their centenary initiative has been a privilege. The new signage will stand as a symbol of 100 years of community spirit – and as an example of how modern materials can help protect that legacy for the future. Just as with our other heritage signage projects, we believe that modern composites can give communities the best of both worlds: timeless appearance and future-proof performance.
