Dagger & Soffit Boards

We Can Produce & Deliver Low Maintenance Decorative Railway Station Canopy Fascias to Mimic Heritage Designs Within 2 Weeks!

Dura Composites’ dagger boards are the ideal replacement material for timber dagger boards on railway station canopy fascias.

Made from durable patented (GB2582967) composite material with a Class B fire rating in accordance with BS EN 13501, Dura Composites Dagger Boards mimic the appearance of traditional wooden valance boards but are simple to install and require virtually no maintenance over their 60 year design life.

They are Network Rail approved and have been successfully installed across the UK rail network.

Dura Daggerboards are half the weight and price of GRP alternatives and are supplied in 2.1 x 1.2 metre sections for faster and cheaper install.

Panels can be supplied in a range of attractive profiles, all of which are non-conductive and require minimal maintenance over their long lifecycle – eliminating the need for repainting or replacing damaged or rotted sections at height, and saving valuable labour time on site.

Our CNC and 3D laser survey expertise enables exact replications of beautiful heritage designs with a turnkey 2 week lead time.

History of station dagger boards and station valance boards

Sometimes known as valance boards or ‘dags’, dagger boards have been common at UK stations since the late 1850s, and primarily served the practical function of removing water from the canopy and reducing weather-inflicted damage such as rot, thereby preventing deterioration of the canopy itself.

In addition to their practical functions, dagger boards were recognised as having positive decorative and aesthetic qualities, and were produced in a range of intricate designs.

However railway station canopy valances and awnings are traditionally made from timber which requires extensive maintenance due to weathering. This periodic maintenance can cause considerable disruption to passengers and station operators as rotten or warped boards normally need replacing in situ – leading to station platform closures.

Now, with composite Dura Daggerboards there is a realistic and cost-effective alternative.

Fire Safety Compliance of Dagger Boards

If you’re involved in ensuring fire safety in the design, management and use of rail infrastructure, you may be interested to know that our Dura Dagger Board, Wall Lining and Soffit material complies with the B-s1, d0 requirements (BS EN 13501‑1:2018, Fire classification of construction products and building elements) for the surface finishes of downward facing ceilings and vertical surfaces, so you can specify with confidence.

Our canopy dagger boards are lightweight, ultra-low maintenance and easy to work with, and Dura Composites’ range of design profiles can be used to mimic the existing valance boards within listed building schemes or at heritage stations.

Composite Dagger Boards are a Low Maintenance Alternative to Wooden Dagger Boards

Composite Dagger Boards are non-conductive and maintenance free, meaning that they have no need for painting, treating or re-staining.

Although the majority of stations choose either white or dark green for their station dagger boards, they can be supplied in any RAL colour, dependent on the quantity and lead times required.

Dura Dagger Boards are an excellent choice for both refurbishment or new build projects. They can be supplied as flat fascia strips or in a range of more intricate profiles.

They are a robust, non conductive, maintenance free product which has all of the attractive appearance of Victorian wooden dagger boards, but with none of the costly upkeep issues.

For full technical specification of dagger board material, please consult your Dura Composites representative. Reference to sheet or cut size and thickness are approximate only.

Whilst every effort is made for these figures to be accurate, the Buyer shall accept that the specification of goods manufactured and supplied by the Company is subject to normal trade tolerances.

Wall Lining & Soffit Panels

Utilising the same composite material design as our market-leading station platform Dura Dagger Boards, the panels have an attractive woodgrain effect finish which mimics traditional timber.

Our cladding and canopy soffit panels combine strength, durability and minimal maintenance allowing them to be used in a variety of station footbridge or platform applications either externally or internally as attractive panelling, soffits and fascias.

The lightweight design means that the panels can be easily manually handled into position without the need for special lifting equipment and ensures that existing structures can take the load of the wood-look composite cladding without the need for intervention at track level.

It also allows footbridge parapets to be enclosed with less risk to passengers thanks to the Class B fire rating.

The non-conductive Dura Composites material is long lasting and has an anticipated design life of sixty years, making it suitable for new build footbridges as well as footbridge refurbishments and station platform canopy upgrades.

They are ideally suited to modular footbridge designs with differing span arrangements that can be modified for each unique location.
