Located in the county of Dorset, Weymouth’s Georgian seafront and golden sands attract thousands of visitors each year. The beach and esplanade, historic harbour, marina and nature reserve surround the rejuvenated town centre, and the beach plays host to several major events each year, including the International Beach Kite Festival, Fireworks, Tag Rugby, Handball and Volleyball.
In 2019, Dorset Council approved the refurbishment and extension of the existing Beach Office, providing extra toilets, extended kiosk, a first floor office with lift access and an outdoor balcony offering better surveillance to improve public safety.
Dura Composites standard mesh anti-slip grating made from GRP was selected for the flooring component of the balcony and provides a safe and durable walking surface in all weathers. Dura Grating has a gritted anti-slip finish and is popular with maritime projects due to its ability to withstand the affects of sea, sand and salt.
The new Beach Office facility opened in August and is now open to the public 7 days a week between May and September, renting out deckchairs, windbreaks and beach wheelchairs to visitors and promoting safe and enjoyable beach use for all.
