Prioritising safety at this 19th Century Signal Box, where a rotting timber staircase was replaced with a Network Rail Compliant GRP Staircase. This Access Structure with its anti-slip, non-conductive nature was chosen due to its structural integrity and easy assembly.

Signal Boxes have been at the epicentre of the Rail Industry for many years and with their proximity to the track, their need for a non-conductive product like our GRP has never been more critical.

This Signal Box’s staircase had fallen into disrepair and the client needed a Network Rail approved solution that enhanced safety for all its users. This is where we came in, creating a bespoke access solution that was cleverly built offsite by market leading fabrication experts.

The lightweight nature of the GRP, and the easy to handle sections made installation simple for the client, and saved precious time and money on site.

The client was happy with the structural integrity, 25 year warranty and anti-slip nature that ensured safety, futureproofing this signal box for decades to come.

Dura delivered the pre-assembled staircase sections on the agreed date which were installed by our in-house installation team with ease, over a weekend shut down of the signal box. From my experience of dealing with Dura from enquiry through to delivery I would definitely recommend using their products again!

Why Choose Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads?

Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads incorporate a number of ground-breaking features. Their single unit construction speeds up install times, reducing costs and limiting disruption to end users. Known as Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads, they are made from pultruded GRP and are lightweight, high strength, anti-slip, non-corrosive and non-conductive.

Designed for use on footbridges and staircases, they overcome all of the problems normally associated with the use of traditional materials such as wood. Whilst timber treads need regular refurbishment as they are prone to rotting which compromises the structure and provides potential “slip or trip” risks for pedestrians, our GRP treads are safe, easy to work with and low maintenance.
