Dura Deck & Dura Cladding Assessed By BREEAM As ‘Responsibly Sourced’

By Stuart Burns September 11, 2013

Having FSC © approval on composite decking or cladding products is more important than ever following the latest set of criteria issued by BRE.

In August 2013, BRE issued an updated set of criteria for assessing responsible sourcing schemes within BREEAM 2011. This document recognises and encourages the specification of responsibly sourced materials for key building elements. To achieve points for any given building element, at least 80% of the materials that make-up that element must be responsibly sourced.

The BREEAM 2013 August document assigns FSC® certification the second highest responsible sourcing tier level and also awards the second highest amount of points for this type of approval. Dura Deck and Dura Cladding composite timber products can be ordered as 100% FSC® approved, meaning that the product has been made using wood from environmentally and responsibly managed forests.

Any building using Dura Composites decking and cladding FSC® approved products will therefore help it achieve this 80% requirement and also help increase the overall weighted score for responsible sourcing due to the high points awarded under the assessment scheme.

Our FSC® certification also satisfies the UK Government's timber procurement policy, which is mandatory for all Central Government Departments, Executive Agencies and Non Departmental Public Bodies.
