Dura Composites' Marina Deck Stands the Test of Time

By Stuart Burns November 23, 2012

Dura Composites has been supplying its’ Marina Deck range with a commercial warranty of 12 years for decades but the proof really is in the pudding.

We have recently inspected some of the very 1st installations of the product and caught up with the man responsible for choosing this composite decking solution.

In 1997 our Mini Mesh fibreglass pontoon decking was installed on RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) projects across the UK, including Weymouth, East Dunmore and Fenit.

15 years later, one of our current clients, Shane Carr from Marine Designs Ltd., who originally specified Marina Deck whilst working at the RNLI, confirmed that “on close inspection, the decking is in full working order and has not suffered any deterioration”- quite the testimonial!

In fact, his forward-thinking decision is proving to be a great one. The Marina Deck at all 3 sites will provide great anti-slip properties on the pontoons and gangways for years to come, providing a safe operating environment.

Whilst traditional materials, such as wood or concrete, may be a little cheaper initially, Marina Deck is far superior for those looking for lower life-cycle costs. This is due to the fact that not only is it designed to last over 25 years but is also due to the fact that it only requires a pressure wash periodically to keep it looking great and does not require painting, oiling  or staining.

What’s more, the anti-slip surface is tested to withstand even the wettest, oiliest and iciest conditions, thus ensuring a safe walkway and allowing access to marinas throughout the year. Marina Deck is also incredibly strong. Its’ mesh structure ensures that not only is its load capacity extremely high but gives it great impact resistance too.
