Dura Composites Continue Their Sponsorship of The Yacht Harbour Association’s Annual Summer Visit
Dura sponsored The Yacht Harbour Association’s (TYHA) Annual Summer Visit for the third time in 4 years as part of its strategy to develop the awareness and understanding of composite decking products for the marine industry.
TYHA supports marina members of the British Marine Federation. This year’s event, held in Cardiff Bay on July 8th and 9th, included white water rafting at Cardiff International White Water on the evening before the tour of local marinas.
Dura Composites’ offer of prizes to the fastest raft spurred some intense competition over 4 timed runs.
The rafts were steered by the TYHA organisers Libby Gordon and Jon Whites, with Libby’s team taking victory by 2 seconds on their fourth run.
In a bid to draw attention away from their defeat, Jon’s raft attempted a death roll where all occupants exit the craft at the same time resulting in an upside down raft.
In the event, only 4 people jumped out of the raft including Andy Buckingham, Marine Sales Manager at Dura Composites, leaving 2 happily dry and bemused occupants.
The prize giving turned out to be just as eventful, as the attendees were all treated to a Dura play pack including most importantly a Dura Plane.
Although it was suggested that these lightweight gliders could be taken home for younger loved ones to play with, there ensued a 50 plane Blitzkrieg, where planes were launched toward rival dinner tables!
The tour of the local facilities was fittingly carried out by boat, allowing all 50 attendees to see close up Cardiff Marine Village, Penarth Marina and Cardiff Bay Barrage with lunch at Pier 64. In addition to learning about the regeneration of the area there were several other learnings:
- Make sure you prepare to get wet when you go rafting
- Always listen to people who say ‘no’ to a ‘roll’ when on a raft
- Never lose the child inside of us, ever!
