Stair Treads and Landings

Made from High-Strength Low Weight GRP

Dura Stair Treads for Railways Crossings & Bridges

Heavy commuter and railway personnel foot traffic can take a toll on stairs and walkways, making them slippery and dangerous.

If you’re looking to improve the safety of ageing pedestrian footbridges or rail crossings then you should consider our award-winning Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads.

Dura Composites revolutionary new Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads are made from high-strength Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP or GRP also known as GFRP) and are ideal for both new build footbridges and for essential railway crossing refurbishment works. Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads incorporate a number of ground-breaking features designed to reduce project costs and installation times, thereby limiting disruption to end users.

If you’re looking for a Non-Structural Stair Tread Solution, please scroll down to the base of this page to view our gritted Non-Structural Stair Tread covers section.

Key Features of Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads

Features of Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads

Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads are a precision engineered product made from GRP which complies with Network Rail specifications and offers significant improvements over traditional alternatives – including a dramatic reduction in installation time.

On-going maintenance of the Dura Slab Structural Stair Tread system is not required as Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) will not rot, corrode or even lose colour throughout is design life, and it is ideally suited to situations where the footbridge or staircase is located in close proximity to overhead power lines or electrified areas, due to its non-conductive properties.

GRP Structural Stair Treads

Rapid Installation Saves Time & Money

The Dura Composites treads and landings can be easily fixed into position thanks to their single unit construction and feature a built-in riser for rapid installation and an in-built fall to assist with drainage and reduce pooling on stair surfaces.

Available in 65mm or 90mm thicknesses, our GRP/FRP Stair Treads can span up to 2.1m clear open span, achieving the required 5kN/m2 at L/300 deflection, meaning that additional supports can be avoided in most scenarios. The 65mm and 90mm sizes are designed to map to the two most customary timber stair component sizes in common usage, which are 75mm and 100mm. The Dura Slab Structural Stair Treads are available in either 65mm or 90mm profiles and therefore allow for a 10mm adjustment in each case, meaning easy replacement of degraded timber.

On-going maintenance of the Dura Slab system is not required as GRP will not rot, corrode or even lose colour throughout is design life, and is ideally suited to situations where the footbridge or staircase is located in close proximity to overhead power lines or electrified areas, due to its non-conductive properties.

Non-Structural Stair Treads

Simple anti-slip stair cover plates

If you’re looking for a non-structural solution to the problem of worn or slippery treads on rail crossings and bridges then you may want to consider Dura Tread GRP anti-slip covers.

Dura Tread pre-formed pultruded anti-slip stair tread covers are a fast and convenient way to provide solid, slip-resistant footing for existing stairs where the substructure is structurally sound. They can be installed over existing wood, concrete or metal steps by glueing, screwing or bolting into position for immediate use. Standard nosing for these covers is a highly visible yellow, with a white option also available. Anti-Slip sheets are also available for landings and larger areas.

The proven gritted, maximum anti-slip Fibreglass Stair Tread Covers surface has one of the highest degrees of slip resistance ever measured for a walking surface, especially in wet and oily work areas.

Dura Stair Tread Cover

Length: 3660mm

Width: 345mm

Thickness: 5mm

Weight per linear metre: 3.99kg

Clear span: N/A Cover only

Our high-quality pultruded GRP Step Covers are manufactured from a corrosion resistant isophthalic Polyester resin, with an extremely hardwearing gritted non-slip top surface, and are designed for both interior & exterior railway crossing and footbridge applications.

The high visibility nosing highlights the leading edge of the step, and the low profile characteristics of the Dura Tread Cover allows it to be fitted to new or existing metal, concrete, or timber steps whilst only increasing the overall step height by 5mm.
