Dura Slab structural covers weigh considerably less than conventional metal and concrete covers. Dura Slab is easier and less expensive to transport, install and remove, for periodic inspections. Only simple hand tools are required for installation and removal, eliminating the need for costly cranage equipment, and labour costs associated with heavy lifting, cutting and welding. Sometimes, access to existing heavy metal covers is not possible due to site restrictions.

Dura Slab composite materials have demonstrated a proven ability to withstand the harsh side effects of corrosive marine conditions better than galvanized steel.  For many years composites have been reliably used in traditional corrosive industries such as chemical processing, plating and marine applications. When an engineer is designing a project, while the cost of material choice is an important criteria, the related costs of installation, maintenance over time, and replacement of debilitated materials, should be considered. The use of fibreglass materials virtually eliminates maintenance costs since painting is not required, and built in UV inhibitors protect against degradation from the sun.

The impact resistance of Dura Slab products allows repeated deflection without permanent deformation. Certain deflection can occur with loading. However, once the load is removed, Dura Slab will return to its original shape, unlike metal or concrete, which remain deformed or crack, and require costly repairs or replacement. Loading/deflection tables are available on request. The non-sparking qualities of fiberglass Dura Slab systems are ideally suited for those installations where hydrogen or other combustible gases many be found, which may explode or cause a fire from sparks produced from accidental dropping of tools onto metal flooring systems.

Pultruded Dura Slab Profiles are manufactured by combining various resins with pure glassfibre reinforcement. They are formed and cured in a continuous process creating a product of extraordinary strength and resilience. The resultant profile offers a combination of benefits and mechanical properties exceeding those of metal. Weighing up to 80% less than steel and concrete, Dura Slab offers equivalent performance for considerably less weight. This results in major weight savings and lower installation and servicing removal costs due to more economical transportation, handling and on site positioning. The high strength to weight ratio has particular relevance for many applications in the structural flooring, gully and duct cover industries.

British Standard Slip Resistance Test Results

The B.S. 4592 test was devised to test and assess the slip resistance of industrial type flooring intended for use in water and wet areas. A co-efficient of friction (CoF) is calculated by determining the mean angle of inclination that an operator can safely maintain when the flooring is subjected to a continuous stream of water.
